7 Oct 2012: Azam 19th witness testimony

After dealing with the Sayedee case, the tribunal then moved to the case of Golam Azam and the prosecutor Zead Al Malum started the examination in chief of the Investigation Officer of this case. (see 18th witness)

Prosecutor: State your identity.
Witness: I am Motiur Rahman, Additional Superintend of Police, Father- Late Md. Shamsuddin Mother- Late Morjina Begum. Aged- 59 years.

I have joined the International Crimes Tribunal on 1-8-2010 as an Investigation Officer. Mr. Md. Abdur Rahim Senior IO of the Investigation Agency (Additional IGP) has handed over the documents to start investigation against Mr. Ghulam Azam. After checking those documents I have started investigation about Ghulam Azam on 01-08-2010 under the complaint register number- 5 of the Investigation Agency. During the investigation I have gone to the National Museum, Bangla Academy, National Liberation Museum and other places to search the archives and documents regarding the liberation war of 1971 and about the crimes described under ICT Act- 1973. I have investigated and interviewed several peoples of several districts who are direct witness with the assistance of my co workers. By using digital camera, scanner, printer, photocopier and other electronics materials I have seized the following 25 seizure lists within 1-8-2010 to 24-1-2011.
Then he has started assisting the Tribunal to record the title of the materials of the seizure list which contains the names of the Daily Sangram, Daily Azad, Daily Pakistan, Daily Ittefaq, Daily Purbo desh, Daily Observer starting from the material exhibit number 1 to 137. At the morning session the Tribunal has recorded up to number 6 of the seizure list.

After the lunch break, and after the tribunal passed on order relating to the case of Sayedee, the tribunal then continued with this.
On 19.12.2011 at 11.30 pm he was in Bangla Academy and seized total 25 pieces of paper cutting of Doinik Ettefak (a daily newspaper of Bangladesh) from 19.12.1971 to 16.12.1972. It has given itself an exhibit number and that is 138.

The attested photocopies of those 25 paper cuttings were published in another 21 newspaper and there exhibit no are from 139 to 156.

Again on 14.11.2011 ISP Nurul Islam (who is a investigation officer) was in Bangla Academy and seized ‘Doinik Somokal’ (a daily newspaper of Bangladesh) which was published in 20.3.1971 and another 25 copies total 26 pieces of paper cuttings. It has itself an exhibit number and that is 157.

The exhibit number of that paper of Doinik Somokal was 161.

On 12.10.2011 at 2.30 pm he was in Bangla Academy and seized total 03 pieces of paper cuttings of ‘Daily Observer’ (a daily newspaper of Bangladesh) from 10.01.1971 to 29.02.1972. It has itself an exhibit number and that is 162.

The attested photocopies of those 03 paper cuttings were published in another 03 newspaper and there exhibit no are from 163 to 165.

On 12.10.2011 at 03.05 pm he was in Bangla Academy and seized total 03 pieces of paper cutting of Dainik Poigam (a daily newspaper of the then East Pakistan) from 12.04.1971 to 22.05.1971. It has itself an exhibit number and that is 166.

The attested photocopies of those 03 pieces of paper cuttings were published in another 03 newspaper and there exhibit no are from 167 to 169.

On 12.10.2011 at 03.30 pm he was in Bangla Academy and seized total 05 pieces of paper cutting of Dainik Ettefak (a daily newspaper of Bangladesh) from 07.01.1972 to 26.11.1972. It has itself an exhibit number and that is 170.

The attested photocopies of those 05 pieces of paper cuttings were published in another 05 newspaper and there exhibit no are from 171 to 175.

On 12.10.2011 at 04.15 pm he was in Bangla Academy and seized total 06 pieces of paper cuttings of Doinik Azad (a daily newspaper of East Pakistan) from 14.02.1972 to 12.06.1972. It has itself an exhibit number and that is 176.

The attested photocopies of those 06 pieces of paper cuttings were published in another 06 newspaper and there exhibit no are from 177 to 182.

On 12.10.2011 at 04.30 pm he was in Bangla Academy and seized 01 piece of paper cutting of Doinik Purbadesh (a daily newspaper of the then East Pakistan) of 26.12.1971. It has itself an exhibit number and that is 183

The attested photocopy of that 01 piece of paper cutting was published in another newspaper and its exhibit number is 184.

On 13.10.2011 at 12.30 pm he was in Bangla Academy and seized total 07 pieces of paper cuttings of Doinik Ettefak (a daily newspaper of Bangladesh) from 18.07.1971 to 26.04.1972. It has itself an exhibit number and that is 185.

The attested photocopies of those 07 pieces of paper cuttings were published in another 07 newspaper and there exhibit no are from 186 to 192.

On 13.10.2011 at 01.30 pm he was in Bangla Academy and seized total 03 pieces of paper cuttings of Doinik Purbadesh (a daily newspaper of the then East Pakistan) from 25.12.1971 to 30.12.1971. It has itself an exhibit number and that is 193.

The attested photocopies of those 03 pieces of paper cuttings were published in another 03 newspaper and there exhibit no are from 194 to 196.

On 13.10.2011 at 02.30 pm he was in Bangla Academy and seized total 09 pieces of paper cutting of Daily Observer (a daily newspaper of Bangladesh) from 04.01.1972 to 14.02.1972. It has itself an exhibit number and that is 197.

The attested photocopies of those 09 pieces of paper cuttings were published in another 09 newspaper and there exhibit no are from 198 to 205.

On 24.10.2011 at 01.15 pm he was in Bangla Academy and seized 50 pieces of paper cuttings of Doinik Azad (a daily newspaper of the then East Pakistan) from 26.12.1971 to 15.03.1972 and one copy of Doinik Ettefak published in 05.01.1971 total 51 copies. It has itself an exhibit number and that is 206.

The attested photocopies of those 51 pieces of paper cuttings were published in another 43 newspaper and there exhibit no are from 207 to 249.

On 24.10.2011 at 02.30 pm he was in Bangla Academy and seized 100 pieces of paper cuttings of Doinik Shongbad (a daily newspaper of Bangladesh) from 04.05.1971 to 29.11.1971 and another 19 pieces of paper cuttings of Doinik Azad published from 03.05.1971 to 11.12.1971 and another 119 pieces of paper cuttings of Doinik Pakistan published from 06.07.1971 to 28.11.1971, total 242 pieces of paper cuttings. It has itself an exhibit number and that is 250.

The attested photocopies of those 242 pieces of paper cuttings were published in another 185 newspaper and there exhibit no are from 251 to 435.
