10 Jun 2012: Azam failure to receive books

Tajul Islam the defence counsel started the proceedings by mentioning that the Tribunal has ordered the Prosecution to take necessary steps to supply the Islamic books, Quran-Hadis to the accused imprisoned Mr. Golam Azam. But they didn’t comply with this order to take steps, as yet no materials have been provided to the accused.

Zead Al Malum, the prosecutor then tried to provide to the Tribunal a document but the Tribunal Chairman has refused to take it in his hand. Then the Prosecutor has stated that to supply the books, some formalities under the Jail Codes should be complied with. The Justice didn’t accept this contention of the Prosecutor and replied that the Order should be complied with within the next day, otherwise the Tribunal will pass an order.

Tajul Islam said that It is apparent from the contention of the Prosecutor that-he is unwilling to supply the materials to the accused.

Justice Nizamul Huq: No it is not correct.

Tajul Islam: If the order and directions of the honorable Tribunal is not being complied with, in that case the people will lose their respect towards this tribunal.

Justice Nizamul Huq: Okay. Tomorrow is for Order.

When the Prosecutors were mumbling about the matter, the Justice stated tha he would only allow the Chief Prosecutor to speak on this subject. Prosecutor Haidar Ali came forward to assist the chief prosecutor and contended that the Jail authority had raised the issue that there is no one assigned to examine the books as is required, so they have suggested that as the books are difficult to be given without proper examination, so the authorities should be provided with a list of the books to buy those for the accused.

Justice Nizamul Huq: Then in that case you might come back to the tribunal and say these and these books are not available in the market, so these cannot be supplied to the accused.

The appropriate order will be passed tomorrow.
