Yes, he might be a leader of a major political party, but Mr Zafar Sobhan knows very well that QM's party has been marginalized for so long, not only by its rival forces, but also by the mainstream media of the country. How can he be so powerful when we never heard his name even before he was arrested? All on a sudden we discovered that there is a terrible Quader Molla out there, and we have to teach him a lesson any way. Quite surprising thinking indeed!

His comment would have been perfect if Jamaat had been in power when he got the capital punishment. Now, it is true that he was only given the death penalty in one of the cases (and, as you point out, that case was not the strongest), but even though he was mystifyingly only given life imprisonment of less in the others, to have handed down the death penalty for those (under the law of the land) would not have been inappropriate. I think even if we are looking only at what could be established in a court of law (and I do think that there are limitations to this), we need to look at all of the cases against him, not just the one in which he was given the death sentence.Zafarnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6772259882748892857.post-1957228303388838692013-12-14T15:46:45.619+06:002013-12-14T15:46:45.619+06:00"Why are so many people joyous about Molla..."Why are so many people joyous about Molla's execution" -

David, there is nothing I disagree with here. But perhaps do you think there is an element of extreme racism and xenophobia that propel such hatred? I would argue that this mentality was carefully manufactured and people have been indoctrinated to be extraordinarily intolerant to any kind of critical view toward the events of 1971. All this accomplished by nurturing a culture of hatred, promoting guilt by association and jingoism. There is no moral ambiguity, there is no grey areas.

I don't think this is an interpretation, rather a more or less accurate factual representation of the situation, in my opinion. I find it very well documented from possibly a neutral perspective. Excellent job. Very much appreciated.Rezwanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04707875668463685581noreply@blogger.com
